For almost a decade SCAD alumnus Michael Scoggins (M.F.A., painting, 2006) has used the aesthetic of comic books and notebook doodles as a source of inspiration for his large-scale works on paper.
Charged with humor and deceiving sophistication, Scoggins's ingenious pieces boast invented and borrowed narratives and characters inspired by pop culture and his own imaginings. With works from 2004-11, this exhibition focuses on the superhero figure - including Mr. T, Andre the Giant, and sometimes the artist himself - a theme to which Scoggins regularly returns.
