Twice nominated for the Turner Prize, internationally acclaimed British artist Richard Wilson is known for his large scale architectural interventions inspired by the worlds of engineering and construction. Hold the Line introduces two newly commissioned pieces that inaugurate the Vertu Global Art Commission. In these works the artist deconstructs a mobile phone by exposing its physical and internal components in provocative ways. A short film captures a flurry of individual falling phone parts as they hit and rattle drum skins, thus recasting the mobile phone as a musical instrument. In another work, Wilson morphs hundreds of phone elements into an extraordinary 3-D rendering of a ubiquitous modern city. Having debuted at the Saatchi Gallery in London on April 13th, these works as well as an impressive array of Wilson’s past works will be on view for a limited engagement at SGA from May 7th – May 15th.
