The artist’s inclination is to poetically elaborate space through the deconstruction of reality at different levels; in fact, through the forms and the cold, sophisticated materials selected by the artist, it acquires composite, creative and revelatory aspects.

Cecchini’s latest work focuses principally on diagrammatic models, searching in the alterity of artifice a key of ambivalence of Western systems of representation. Physical phenomena become an optical and emotive inventory of the environment, natural systems turn into algorithms of a non-homogeneous system, both complex and individual, in order to reveal the invisible processes of our present.

Searching for an analogy between grammar and anatomy, in their language the works recall formulas capable of generating auto-poietic systems in which the bursting out of the structures regenerates itself, contaminates and transforms itself, just as happens in an organism.

The sculptural installations, made up of hundreds of elements, seem to be a biological metaphor
– cells that open and flower, releasing molecular components that engage with the gallery space. The tall lamp post installed in the space – abandoned and at an angle – is an urban landscape element on which a new possibility of life and of a project is grafted. Like climbing plants, the sculptures propagate on it and in the space in a kind of writing that is at once emotive and organic: the resulting drawings bring out different narratives and ideas, outlining the speculative potential of
sculpture as diagram, where the “model of reference” moves from scientific representation through
artistic interpretation, and vice versa.

In the “Wallwave Vibrations” series, the alteration is introduced as the physical manifestation of vibrations expressed; the visual mesh is transformed into the echo of a purely physical phenomenon, like the succession of waves on a flat liquid or the effect of the movement of sound on a surface. It is as if the whole architecture, or a part of it, were suffering the consequences of a phenomenon that influences, modifies and leads it towards an organic symbiosis between sculpture and wall.

The number of surreal elements, and their formal complexity, take the works into a dual terrain between abstraction and the sublime, where the point of departure is a kind of equation for measuring the physical reactions of a wave in space.

The constant dialectic between nature and artifice – what is distinguishable from nature in that it is produced by humans – is never the exclusive end of Cecchini’s work, but should be considered as a means for discovering a technology that inevitably engages with the compendium of the natural and with a cultural artifice based upon it.

The special project involving Loris Cecchini, Francesco Simeti and the Miroglio Textile consists of two actions. The first is with Metri d’Arte on the second floor of the gallery; after doing a workshop in Alba with skilled workers from the Miroglio company, the two artists produced some works arising from the experience, on display in the gallery in Beijing.

Arising from the contact with the Miroglio Group, and pursuing one of our lines of action, we decided to ask Loris Cecchini and Francesco Simeti to donate the works for a charity evening to be held on 28 March at the Galleria Continua in Beijing. After the exhibition, the topic was still going on. Gao Mingyan began systemic researches to seek answers.

Firstly in February 2013, Gao Mingyan’s “Life Roles” were displayed in exhibition at MOCA. In this section, Gao Mingyan proceeded from the most familiar daily materials, which were also the most interesting for him. He carried on a subversive exploration to minutiae of life itself, showed various bizarre scenes in the exhibition by decomposing and re-arranging some familiar daily products. In two videos, artist wore white overall, which signified laboratory researcher identity, competed with those familiar things or let them compete with each other. Artist tried to reinterpret life roles by all these means.

Upcoming exhibition “exercises of living” continues the work above and is deeper exploration on the topic of “What else could I do?” which is a meditation about facing life alone and inward the inner. Gao Mingyan insists his researches in clues of daily life, refuses to make him blind to the mechanized life model, perseveres to dig out details around and prepares to find answers to his questions.

Fri, 08 Mar 2013 00:56:29 +0000 http://www.artslant.com/cn/Events/list http://www.artslant.com/cn/Events/list Wang Zhiyuan - Xin Dong Cheng Space for Contemporary Art - March 30th, 2013 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM Wed, 27 Mar 2013 02:10:12 +0000 http://www.artslant.com/cn/Events/list http://www.artslant.com/cn/Events/list Dai-Ch'ien Chang, Chun-Pi Huang, Hsin-Yu Pu - National Art Museum of China - April 2nd, 2013 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

This exhibition marks the largest exhibition of Taiwanese art to be organized in China in the history of cross-strait exchange. Domestic objects such as a desk lamp, a steam rack, a bottle of make-up remover and a lump of rock sugar are devoid of their usual context and appear as oil paintings and videos.

The objects painted in a pastel palette do not seem to function other than displaying the sculptural quality of light. The artist's performance on video then activates these objects in an antithetical manner. In "Milky yellow cube", a block of butter is emptied of its association as food. In its accompanying video "How to cut butter into a perfect cube", Lai measures, cuts and smooths the yellow block, presenting it as the most malleable of clay.

Futile yet monumental, the represented objects sit both on top and below the pedestal, assuming autonomy and at the same time indulging in the personal, private and intimate experiences we cast onto them. The works reflect human projections onto objects that have lost their ontological significance and they are now open to new meanings.

Gallery EXIT

Thu, 28 Mar 2013 23:22:48 +0000 http://www.artslant.com/cn/Events/list http://www.artslant.com/cn/Events/list Mariasun Salgado - Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art (Doland Art Museum) - April 6th, 2013 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
The Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art is pleased to present Space Conflicts, the monographic exhibition comprising the work of Mariasun Salgado. By merging and juxtaposing images and graphics which a priori are opposed to each other, Mariasun Salgado emphasizes the absurdities arising from urban systems in which today's society evolves. Under the registration of contemporary collage, a medium that is increasingly present in our visual horizon, the artists seeks to provoke questions in the viewer for which there is no single answer.

Mariasun Salgado holds a PhD in Architecture from the University of Madrid. She is a lecturer of Graphic Ideation at the School of Architecture of Madrid and combines teaching with research and artistic practice. I've seen things you people wouldn’t believe” at the Casa Decor'03 edition. In the course of her artistic and professional activity she has been awarded numerous prizes in national and international competitions. In the field of research, she has published numerous articles in professional journals as well as having worked with the ARCO contemporary art fair in its 2002 and 2003 editions, participating in its editorial publication ARCO Noticias. The production of her graphical works is characterized by the representation of the conflicts which are generated between architecture and its environments, specifically those being derived from the urban massification and the concept of hyper-density.
