RAWwards is the biggest indie arts awards show in the world, held annually by RAW: natural born artists, an independent arts organisation.

Artist's Statement:
"I studied fine arts at the University of the Philippines and worked in home design and construction for 12 years until this year, (2012) where I decided to concentrate on my art.
I began using watercolor and fell in love with it: it's unique aesthetic and its behavior. In my experience, painting with water is a constant balancing act of restraint and unpredictability, much like how I deal with creating an idea for my works. I believe I work best when I combine discipline and reckless abandon. I like the idea of painting an abstract idea into a simple statement, and simple doesn't really mean lacking, but concise.

I am inspired by the human figure and its parts. I like to paint beautiful things, but unexpected beauty. The more I hesitate at the thought, the more encouraged I am to paint it.
I am currently exploring creating bigger pieces. Expanding the stories I can tell with watercolor. I have the desire to go back to using oil and acrylic and I probably will, but I will keep painting with watercolor because I think I can still surprise myself with it. " - Gel Jamlang
