In 2014 Beijing's 798 Art District has transformed from its genesis as a haven for artist studios. The district is not only a showcase for star artists churning out work for an eager market, but also less recognized work of widely varying quality, and even kitsch souvenirs. With THE UN-OFFICIALS | art before 85, showing until April 12 at Boers-Li Gallery, visitors are treated to an idiosyncratic treasure of a recent Beijing past that in these environs seems far more distant. Dozens of works from... [more]

On any given Saturday, the perimeter of Oakland’s newly revived and landscaped Lake Merritt gushes leisure and its minions: weekend bohemians with shiny banjos, eager-eyed GreenPeace solicitors in stiff vests, joggers, bicyclists, casual tight-rope walkers (this is not a joke), girls selling vintage clothes out of a car, smoking barbeques, children squealing and zipping by on all manner of wheeled contraptions, couples on blankets in flagrante, and a farmer’s market covering the gamut from fair-tra... Welsh Naive Art
by

White Court Art are really happy to be working with  Welsh artist Therese James a full time artist who has been painting & exhibiting since 1993. She's a member of the Naive School & works from a compulsion to recreate what she feels & sees, relying purely on an instinctive approach to her art that has developed into her own style with expressive characters who inhabit the world of her paintings. Much of her inspiration comes from the places & literature of her native Wales & the West Country of... [more]

Simeon Stafford - Cornish Artist
by
11/9/12 Posted 11/9/12

Here at White Court Art we love the work of Cornish artist Simeon Stafford. Stafford was born in 1959& as a young artist his landscapes were similar to the gritty northern landscapes of L.S.Lowry & other northern English artists. Simeon moved to Cornwall in 1996, where he met the artists Terry Frost & Patrick Heron. His northern roots fused with the influence of colour & light from Frost, Heron and Cornwall to create an expressionism within his work which is both powerful & alluring. Not concerned wi... [more]

I WOULD RATHER DIE OF PASSION THAN OF BOREDOM

Vincent van Gogh He certainly did didn't he? I've recently rediscovered a book on Van Gogh and have enjoyed revisiting his life and his work. His paintings certainly did reflect his unabated passion. Almost frenzied brush strokes, intense colour and deep impasto as if he was trying to press the paint right into the soul of the viewer.   I'm also passionate about my work as a Professional Artist, I love colour and impasto but frenzy is not for me. When I paint a deep sense of calm takes over and I enter a different world. I could paint for days without a desire to eat or sleep and often imagine that t... [more]

Being associated with the classical and modern field of English literature, i felt the necessity to express myself in some way or the other in pictorial art. therefore , i found release  by manifesting my vision and communicating my power of imagination by painting; a novice in this field but it is an ambitious venture and occasionally i appear to be successful in retaining the underlying theme of my pictures. To  me  it felt very difficult to discuss visual language of my work but my paintings a...
