> STATEMENT

As a regional art museum in a university setting, the NIU Art Museum’s exhibition strategy is to balance the challenges of contemporary art with the riches of traditional visual art for a comprehensive examination of visual culture. The NIU Art Museum presents rotating exhibitions from the university’s collections, work by regional and national contemporary artists, and national traveling exhibitions. The museum pursues its goal of furthering understanding of the visual arts by supplementing exhibits with written educational material, gallery talks, artist lectures, panel discussions, symposia and other related activities.
