The David Weinberg Gallery is proud to present Infuse, a two- person show featuring Eric Blum and Hunt Rettig.

Eric Blum, born in Fresno, California and now living and working in New York City, creates paintings with encaustic wax and silk to create dreamy soft-focus paintings. Blumʼs current paintings owe a debt to his earlier career as a professional photographer as he strives to create an atmosphere that is unclear and out of focus. Blum found the medium of painting more suited to his desire to capture what he calls “the irretrievable glimpse.” He found that this delicate but potent moment was always lost the instant he took a picture. Blum realized that he could more artfully control the illusory aura that he sought through the distorting lens of transparent materials, such as beeswax infused silk. These elements also created something more tactile while achieving his goal of producing ambiguous forms capable of arousing multiple interpretations.

Hunt Rettig was born in El Paso, Texas and currently makes his home and studio in Aspen Colorado. Rettigʼs works are a combination of polyester film infused with synthetic rubber and acrylics that are carefully folded and molded into place behind frosted glass. For Rettig, his works are forms of meditation and the time and precision involved in crafting the finished pieces becomes a personal and spiritual journey. The contemplative ideas that drive the action as he creates his work often result in something novel and unexpected for the artist. Rettigʼs works are evocative of highly organic material with occasional gestures of exacting geometry. Sometimes highly saturated in color, other times quiet and neutral, Rettigʼs artworks are at once sensual and contemplative.

The David Weinberg Gallery is open Tuesdays – Fridays, 10am to 5:30pm and Saturdays, 10am to 4pm. Please visit our website for updated information at www.DavidWeinbergGallery.com. The site includes current, past and upcoming shows as well as artist talks and educational events.
