> DESCRIPTION

Born in Wisconsin in 1970, Jason Rohlf has dedicated his career to exploring and conveying complex, visceral imagery. The hallmark of his unique painting style is his striking use of color and texture. He uses a mixed-media technique of acrylic, graphite and collage to create multi-layered abstract paintings on canvas, wood and paper.

In 1999, Jason Rohlf and his family moved from Milwaukee to New York City. This physical move fueled a shift in his art as he began to use his trademark technique in a more streamlined, graphic, modern way. The economy of his style masks the immense depth and intricacy of these extraordinarily layered works. This depth is countered by Rohlf’s use of simple, one-word titles such as “guide”, “even” and “connect”. Each painting imparts a small, complex world of its own.
