Christa Donner explores issues of women's health and body image through her ink and collage works on paper, comics, and large-scale wall drawings.
Drawing is both my microscope and my scalpel: the tool I use to investigate the human body through sensation and imagination. My work explores the complexity of women's internal and external body image, its roots in the notion of hysteria, and the ways that we misinterpret or mis-imagine our health and ourselves. Sexuality, illness and injury, fertility, bodily functions, power, mass media are all key elements of my visual research.
Through public projects and collaborative zines, Donner exchanges stories of bodily experience to provoke dialogue both in the art world and beyond it. Her inquiry transforms anxiety and misunderstanding into personal, magical, powerful re-visions of alternative anatomies.
