After serving as a branch location for 50 years, the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice began its independent existence on September 1. 2001 when it separated from the well-respected Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. The political changes in the 1980's in central Europe greatly contributed to this separation. the once small school quickly reestablished a new identity and flourished radically in the new political climate. Given the new opportunities, the school became an incubator of new ideas and initiatives such as international exhibitions, workshops and internships, various artist visits from all over the world, and foreign student and faculty exchanges. The Academy is firmly rooted in the old traditions of art and design and educational institutions in Poland. This exhibition presents work from students and faculty from the Design Department of the Academy and demonstrates the process of a student going through the entire course study.
Our Reception will be on Thursday September 19 4:30-6:00 P.M.
