Russell Bowman Art Advisory is proud to present Summer in the City, an exciting new exhibition of Vivian Maier's photographic prints from the Jeffrey Goldstein Collection.
In April 2011, Russell Bowman Art Advisory was the first Chicago gallery to host a Vivian Maier exhibition. Since that first show, Vivian Maier's work from the Goldstein collection has been hosted at various venues from coast to coast and abroad. Exhibitions have been held in New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Seattle, Portland, Santa Monica, Tampa, Houston and Roanoke, both in gallery venues and museums. International exhibitions have also taken place in Chiasso, Switzerland; and Brescia, Italy. For the 2013-14 art season, international exhibitions are scheduled for Toronto, Shanghai, Paris and Seoul!
Adding to Vivian Maier's global recognition is the award-winning book Vivian Maier: Out of the Shadows (Copyright 2012, CityFiles Press) and the upcoming Vivian Maier documentary produced by the BBC (London). The documentary was recently filmed in Chicago and is due to air this summer.
Vivian Maier spent most of her adult life in the North Shore suburbs working as a nanny and caretaker while constantly roaming the city and suburban streets, camera in hand. Capturing life and the vibrance of summer, the exhibition primarily features everyday summer scenes in Chicago and the North Shore suburbs, circa 1955-1971, with an occasional shot from her time spent visiting New York and Los Angeles.
Celebrating summer, the city, and one of Chicago's own, Russell Bowman Art Advisory and the Jeffrey Goldstein Collection proudly welcome Vivian Maier's work back home with the exhibition, Summer in the City, opening June 21, with a reception open to the public from 5-8pm.
