Visitors are welcome to come to the Illinois State Museum Lockport Gallery to meet artist Judith Raphael and hear her speak about her work. This free event begins at 2:00 and is part of the Sunday Series of programs which accompany our current exhibition Figurism: Narrative and Fantastic Figurative Art from the Illinois State Museum Collection. Reservations are not required, though seating is limited.
For much of her career, Judith Raphael has focused on people, building full characters for compositions staged to reveal to viewers the narratives of modern civilization. Raphael resides in both Chicago and New York. She is primarily a figurative painter, was an associate professor at Moraine Valley College from 1969-2000 and a visiting artist at the School of the Art Institute for over 20 years.
