Jean Albano Gallery is pleased to announce a solo show featuring new work by Gladys Nilsson. The exhibition opens Friday, September 7 and will run through October 20, 2012. The gallery will host an opening reception for the artist Friday, September 7 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Jean Albano Gallery, 215 W. Superior, Chicago, IL 60654.
Gladys Nilsson has been painting her distinctive watercolors since the 1960s when she emerged onto the national art scene with fellow Chicago Imagist and Hairy Who members. She creates humorous narratives by placing her characters in whimsical social and domestic situations. Often they are self-referential, portraying scenes from daily life. Nilsson’s figures are depicted in her highly recognizable style, exaggerated with elongated limbs and rubbery stances. Her work is included in numerous museum collections. She currently lives in Wilmette, IL and teaches at the School of the Art Institute.
