MARCO CASENTINI's art is about the place where the sea, light, and architecture meet and is heavily influenced by the scenery of his native Italy. He is drawn to the color and structure that exists in this liminal place. For the past few years, Casentini and his family have also lived in Southern California, where the same elements continue to influence his work.
His paintings are elegiac map-markers with gridded and composed landscapes of blocks of different colors. Often he paints on Plexiglas. In many instances the artist then adheres the painted plexiglas onto the painted canvas, creating a sensation of glass and light.
Whether one is viewing the acrylic on canvas or collaged canvases, the work yields an elegance and translucence that is simultaneously formal and passionate.
