Jean Albano Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition featuring new paintings by Tucson-based artist Jim Waid. The show opens July 13 and will run through August 25, 2012. The gallery will host an opening reception for the artist on Friday, July 13 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Jean Albano Gallery, 215 W. Superior, Chicago, IL 60654.

Jim Waid is known for his bold, vividly-hued acrylic paintings inspired by landscapes of the desert Southwest. His use of spontaneous, gesturing strokes combined with a controlled manipulation of the paint, using both paintbrush and palette knife, creates vivid, highly textured surfaces. By scraping through thick layers of acrylic to reveal bright, smooth colors underneath, he plays with depth and the illusion of landscape.
