> DESCRIPTION

“Transcription” is a site specific installation by multi – media artist Holly Holmes especially for Terrain. “Transcription” is a site specific installation by multi – media artist Holly Holmes.

Within the field of genetics transcription refers to the ability of Ribonucleic acid (RNA) to self-replicate and bond with itself. Holmes is drawn to this notion of transition, transformation, building, and rebuilding from similar elements. Transcription is comprised of several multiple sculptural pieces. Each segment interprets the idea of the module or cell structure, the notion of permutation, sequencing forms, and objects originating from a single starting point. The work is composed of paper, metal, fabric, gelatin, bird-seed, and wax. Resembling giant fruit loops, donuts and bagels, her sculptures are early spring time feeders for the local birds and squirrels. The installation is designed for these wild animals to feast on the seeds rather than donuts and bagels found in the trash. This will be a treat for our eyes and, a tasty snack for the birds and squirrels.

Holly Holmes received her MFA from the School of Art Institute of Chicago in May 2011.  She is a painter, sculptor, educator and curator living in Oak Park, IL.
