> DESCRIPTION

Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley ends his historic service to the City in May of 2011, and an election to choose his successor takes place February 22. In honor of the 2011 mayoral election, Project Onward presents an exhibition of paintings and drawings depicting the colorful pantheon of Chicago's past mayors, including William Ogden, the city's first mayor; Carter Harrison, who presided over the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition and died at an assassin's hand; Harold Washington, the city's first African-American mayor; and of course, the Mayors Daley.

On the day after the February 22 election, a new Project Onward portrait will be unveiled: Chicago's next mayor.
