The MCA Stage presents ICE (International Contempora ry Ensemble)\, its ensemble-in-residence on May 30 – June 2\, 2013\, in the world premiere of The Whisper Opera\, by American composer D avid Lang. The work was commissioned by ICE\, with set design by Jim Fi ndlay and features soprano and new music specialist Tony Arnold. The intima te 60-person audience is seated onstage\, surrounding a set shrouded in whi te\, translucent fabric. The opera text and stage environment convey themes of secrets\, and the tension between what we hide and what we choose to re veal. The project is inspired by Lang’s visits to small opera houses in rur al Italy. The performance is part of the MCA Stage’s ongoing new music cele bration\, called the Composers Stage\, and marks the final concert i n a three-year series with ICE.
