After serving as a branch location for 50 years\, the Ac ademy of Fine Arts in Katowice began its independent existence on September 1. 2001 when it separated from the well-respected Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow.  \;The political changes in the 1980's in central Europe greatl y contributed to this separation.  \;the once small school quickly rees tablished a new identity and flourished radically in the new political clim ate.  \;Given the new opportunities\, the school became an incubator of new ideas and initiatives such as international exhibitions\, workshops an d internships\, various artist visits from all over the world\, and foreign student and faculty exchanges.  \;The Academy is firmly rooted in the old traditions of art and design and educational institutions in Poland. &n bsp\;This exhibition presents work from students and faculty from the Desig n Department of the Academy and demonstrates the process of a student going through the entire course study.
