Addington Gallery is proud to present two new exhibitions to open the Fall Gallery Season. < /p>\n

Both Clayton and Katz are fixtures on the Chicago art scene\, and have been featured in numerous one person and group shows in Chicago. Both artists exhibit nationally\, and a t mid-career have received much attention for their work that often hovers between abstraction and realism.

Julia Katz has received much attention for her paintings of the figur e in motion. She has beautifully and convincingly rendered dancers\, childr en at play\, swimmers at the beach\, crowd scenes\, runners\, musicians\, a ll the while focusing\, not on the particular activity\, but on the energy of the scene\, and the body in motion. In Katz's newest body of work\, her attention has expanded from observation of human movement to ideas about in ternal movement like breath\, influenced by her current practice of Yoga\, and external energies\, typified by her observation of extreme weather cond itions. Katz's new work features powerful gestural abstraction\, and the fo rms are organic and suggestive of nature. The artist works spontaneously an d compulsively. In some of the pieces\, the human figure is still evident\, in others\, it is as if the figure has been subsumed by the energy emergin g from the painting itself\, and from the process of creation.

\n

Both exhibitions give us a window into the some-times dramatic process of an established artist's evo lution. In these exhibitions\, these painters donot rest on their laurels\, but push their ideas and definitions forward into new territories\, and th e viewer is richer for having taken the unknown path with them.
