Julia Katz creates work that consistently explo res the movement of our bodies in our day to day lives. Her current series of paintings are based on her observation of human activity around public p laces in Chicago. Images featured in this body of work are derived from two main sources: Observing runners participating in the Chicago Marathon\, an d watching people congregate for concerts and public events at Millenium Pa rk in downtown Chicago. While the artist's presence at these specific locat ions and events serve as the initial inspiration for the work\, the paintin gs quickly become universal\, as we search through the faces of the subject s of her paintings\, and identify gesture\, attitude\, and body language. K atz's active\, gestural brushwork is strongly in evidence here\, and the ov ert textures and aggessive painterliness of her compositions engagingly ech o the subject matter\, exhibiting vibrancy\, action\, and energetic life. < /span>
