Tina Tahir (lives in Chicago)
My recent work is a meditation on beauty, mortality, and impermanence: pieces that transform and eventually vanish. In creating that which is destined to disappear, I am acknowledging the existential and self-reflexive questions inherent in time-based art. At the same time, I seek the defining moment when beauty is possible in the tension between harmony and chaos. By implicating the viewer as active participant whose presence potentially harms the work itself, I create situations in which this balance of equilibrium and entropy is constantly being actively renegotiated.
