Zakkir Hussain at GALLERYSKE - Bangalore January 17th - February 27th
Posted 1/21/15

Zakir Hussain’s latest works at Gallery SKE in Bangalore is a wonderful presentation of works to understand that originality can only be claimed as an unclaimed, seen as the other in the final omnipresent grand narrative of itself. The claim to originality that his works make in the beginning is by having a title ‘no title’. This is very interesting as the self proclamation of having no title negates the presence of the trace of the past. If there is any c... [more]

But I am not a pop song

1/20/15 Posted 1/20/15

Eventually, a recognized artists becomes popular; generally admired by the people, or by some people. I have not reached that common precipice. I am still anonymous and recieve my rejections quietly like all of my peers. Three rejections in a week, not uncommon, but smarts a little more than finding out the morning after you bought a lottery ticket that you didn't actually win. Some bets are laid with more belief and some with a little bit of hope. All of them are thrown to the universe with... [more]

I have a nine to five job working for a non-profit. I used to be a part-time educator/part-time stay at home mom, wondering artist. Before that, on occasion I was a full time Art teacher and alternately a full time mom. I was at a meeting the other day, where someone referred to Housewife artists in a not-so complimentary light. I had to chuckle inside. What is the difference between an artist who stays at home with her kids and a housewife who makes art? Quality, I guess..getting to be cal... [more]

All This WInter Needs is a Burst of Color!

In the heart of Winter, color is exploding at Harlem's La Maison d'Art, where artist, Tomo Mori's debut curatorial undertaking - Color Play -has energized the elegant, garden gallery space. The exhibition, as the name implies, experiments with color, and creates a dialog between the works of two artists; both using meticulous and non-traditional approaches to the ancient technique of collage. Along with Mori's signature canvas-on-canvas collages, the exhibition includes photo-montages created by C... [more]

ART AND AUTISM: "COLORS AND EMOTIONS" FROM AN EXPERIENCE IN ITALY

One of the top 5 videoclips in 2014 at my YouTube channel is "Colors and Emotions: The other side of autism". The clip simply shows images from a workshop with autistic kids who reproduced some of my artworks from"Lacer/actions" Project (about torn and decomposed publicity posters, natural cracks and scratches, urban signs). The 2nd edition of this wonderful activity was curated by Patrizia Sapri who carried out as well as (in Anzio-Rome) an interesting exhibition ("Scratches, Cracks and Lac... [more]
