    I recently saw a rare screening in London of Chick Strands' 1979 film Soft Fictions, considered the seminal work of the experimental Californian filmaker. It's an incredible piece, prescient in its style and approach to female representation. It mixes documentary, poetry, truth, and reality, never presenting either victims or victors, but instead the stories told by these female subjects give the idea that "ecstasy is knowing exactly who you are and still not caring."     ArtSlant Prize showcase series
    In the Showcase
    The ArtSlant Prize is a Showcase Series designed to exhibit and promote talented artists from around the world. The Showcase has six rounds per year, and in each round artists may enter one image and compete for different stages of winning status. The reviews include international gallerists, curators and other arts professionals. At the end of our yearly Showcase cycle, the top three winning artists receive an exhibition in a top art city or art fair, cash prizes, and the possiblity of having their work purchased for the ArtSlant Emerging Collection.

    The Georgia Fee Artist | Writer Residency in Paris, which was established in memory of ArtSlant's Founder, offers select artists and writers the opportunity to live and create work in Paris and to increase exposure of their work to an international audience. The Residency is open to visual artists of all mediums, art writers and critics, 24 years or older; recipients are chosen after a rigorous application and interview process.

    Each artist- or writer-in-residence maintains a blog where they can post works in progress, texts, and inspirations, giving us a glimpse of their process and their experiences in Paris.
