Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens (MDD)

Oscar Jespers (1887 - 1970) is considered one of the most important modernist sculptors in Belgium. It was mainly during the period 1920-1930 that his work reached a creative peak. Jespers processed modernist influences of international artists such as Brancusi and Zadkine into a personal visual language.

The exhibition at the Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens focuses on the work from the period 1917-1930 and shows Jespers’s sculptures in dialogue with the work of a number of like-minded friends and contemporaries (such as Constant Permeke, Edgard Tytgat, Floris Jespers and Hippolyte Daeye) .

Oscar Jespers (1887 – 1970) wordt beschouwd als een van de belangrijkste modernistische beeldhouwers in België. Voornamelijk in de periode 1920-1930 komt zijn oeuvre tot een creatief hoogtepunt. Modernistische invloeden van internationale kunstenaars zoals Brancusi en Zadkine verwerkt Jespers tot een persoonlijk beeldtaal.

De tentoonstelling in het museum Dhondt-Dhaenens focust op het werk uit de periode 1917-1930 en toont de sculpturen van Jespers in dialoog met het werk van een aantal gelijkgezinde vrienden en tijdgenoten (zoals Constant Permeke, Edgard Tytgat, Floris Jespers en Hippolyte Daeye).
