The works are produced collectively.

All paintings and installations are visual kaleidoscopic thoughts. The work is similar to a scattered semantic mosaic. The reading of the work is strobing and renews each time the meaning of associations.
The overdetermined image reminds the language of dreams during paradoxical sleep. These creative combinations between the signifier and the signified open the fiels of poetic interpretations.

When you look at them, the installations of precarious shelters filled with objects, writings and various drawings, form the image of an incoherent thought, one of a universe without future, entirely absorbed by the present.

It is less rebellious than festive. By customizing the marks of reality, I dissect historical pieces, myths or symbolic objects belonging to the collective memory of design, language, architecture or music. I return to the source of things, their skeleton, recreating augmented prototypes.

Also when I turn an object or isolate a part , it is in the will to create another one, charged with a new meaning.
With this approach, I weave a mental canvas where all words, all ideas are so many connections that refer to each other. He allowed a careful selection of figures, attributes, paraphernalia and settings from these engravings to go wild in his large-sized paintings, by having them photographed, processing these digital images and blowing them up to oversized proportions. He subsequently ‘overpainted’ these images with pastel chalk; raising them, move by careful move, to the tactile, velvety state of the finished paintings.

‘For this latest series, I have significantly extended my field’, Tordoir says. ‘While focusing on Tiepolo, I confined myself to a well-defined, specific content. For Shadows of Identity and Death, my approach is basically the same, but thematically anything and everything remained an interesting possibility.

This allowed me an unprecedented freedom.’ The artist translated this freedom in his compositions of new stories, inspired by Courbet’s use of shading, Jean Piaget’s research findings in the field of Psychology, as well as by the horror of Hiroshima, the violence in Gaza and the adventures of a fictitious, self-invented ‘Mr Clean’. Shadows of Identity and Death consists of about twenty works, two of which, Gravel Beat and Sleepwalker, will be exhibited at Galerie Van De Weghe.

More works from this series, for instance the very impressive De-Light, among others, will be presented at Tordoir's solo exhibition at Art Brussels.

(text: Kathleen Weyts)

Sun, 29 Mar 2015 14:35:58 +0000 Adriano Costa, Gabriel Lima, Amadeo Luciano Lorenzato, Max Ruf, Erika Verzutti, Pedro Wirz - Albert Baronian rue de la Concorde - March 12th - April 18th
In São Paulo, the Rua 25 de Março - an emblematic street in the city center - is known for its competitive prices. There one will find a strikingly wide range of goods starting from R$1,00 (one Brazilian Real). Counterfeit products are the greatest preoccupation for the authorities- although in prison since 2007, the Chinese businessman Law is still said to be in charge of the pirated goods spread throughout the shops and stalls. When walking down 25 de Março, one will frequently hear the following question being repeated: "É do Law?" (Is it from Law?).

Regardless of their provenance, Rua 25 de Março is a street of things, and they are never still. The bustle of trade sets hundreds of thousands of objects into motion, animated by the mechanisms of circulation and the propagations of daily life. The charge is so intense that one finds oneself facing not only objects, but unique and dynamic displays of forms, light, space and color.

Erika and Adriano have their studios close by, in the same complex as Jac at Rua Helvetia. Gabriel and Pedro used to be working in a studio nearest to the opposite end in the neighboring area of Bom Retiro.
