Michael Schultz Gallery centres on contemporary painting and sculpture of international significance and was established in 1986.
In the starting years Georg Baselitz, Markus Lüpertz and A.R. Penck were firm parts of the gallery’s programme. Thereto, came Anselm Kiefer and Gerhard Richter as well as American painters as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Robert Rauschenberg, and Andy Warhol.
Important priorities are the discovery and advancement of younger painters. Among those were in the beginning Cornelia Schleime and Helge Leiberg. At present there are SEO, Römer + Römer, Maik Wolf, Sven Drühl, Jan Muche, Feng Lu, and Danja Akulin. In order to further this development, schultz contemporary was established in October 2005; exclusively dedicated to the presentation of agitating young and yet unseen positions.
In the years following Michael Schultz opened branches in Seoul in 2006 and Beijing in 2007. Steps which broadened the gallery’s programme. Right now the gallery represents Korean artists Kim Yusob, Dongi Lee, and Yee Sookyung as well as Chinese artists Chen Wenbo, Huang He, Ma Jun, Huang Min, and Zou Cao.
With more than twenty years of experience Michael Schultz Gallery still takes curious looks into the future.
