> STATEMENT
Founded in late 1999 as the Ausstellungs- und Projekt-
raum Maschenmode (founders: Guido W. Baudach,
Martin Germann, Peter K. Koch).
The name literally meaning was derived from the actual
premises that formerly housed a knitwear store
(East Berlin).
First Exhibition: Marcus Kaiser Kindergarten (opened:
17/12/1999); a slide installation given no money was
available to have luminous elements installed.

Markus Kaiser - Kindergarten
As from March 2000 exhibition space was managed
solely by Guido W. Baudach. Different exhibitions
were now held every week to fund the exhibition
programme from drinks sales at openings - which
often lasted in to the early hours.
Highlight: Face the Black – Sammlung Zipp
(opened: 22/04/2000).

Late November 2000: Opening of the artists’ haunt
d i r t conceived by Thomas Zipp and run in collabo-
ration with Guido W. Baudach in adjacent premises
formerly housing a driving school (d i r t existed
until
May 2001). Aim: to finance the exhibition programme
while simultaneously creating a spatial division
between the art and the parties.
