‘Offensive‘ say some, ‘exciting and sensual‘ say others. Art made of skin polarizes and at the same time unifies by the fascination it evokes. Heide Hatry is using skin, meat and eyes of pigs in her project as material for her sculptures. “Heads and Tales” are women’s portraits, which come to live in the art-book project of the same name, wherein they are given individual stories and personality. The stories, written by 27 authors are funny, disturbing, sad and sometimes unpleasant, reflecting the lives of real women.
Hatry‘s work refers directly to social role models and patterns of behavior, wherein women are exposed to experiences like violence, sexism and oppression. Her unconventional base and methods of working in their unsettling nature create additional room for these issues.
