We are pleased to invite you to the third exhibition "Last Call" by Jen Ray.
Jen Ray brings her visual universe from works on paper to the realm of performance.
For the opening the gallery will present itself as an all-encompassing stage, inviting us to more fully experience the characters, architecture and ambience of debauched parties fashioned in an artists' reverie. Inspired by Kenneth Anger Serge Lutens, Grace Jones and Amanda Lear as well as Black Sabbath, Jen Ray creates an impressive ensemble of images and sounds; with the soundtrack provided by her husband, the musician and DJ Jason Forrest.
The production culminates with the embodiment of Ray's expression, a performance by the Viennese performer Ihu Anyanwu and four additional actors. Insignia such as dressing up and masquerade, sexual transparency and transgression as well as references to the eroticism, sex, and fantasies of violence in Guy Bourdin's fashion photography, are of particular importance.
New works on paper will be exhibited concurrently in the gallery, showing precisely the imaginative world the performance has emerged from. Amongst several smaller drawings, there will be a new large scale work on display, that will later be shown at the group exibition „Wonderland", May 2 - August 30 2009 at Kunsthal KAdE in Amersfoort, Netherlands.
Jen Ray, born 1970 in Raleigh, North Carolina, has studied at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina from 1991 to 1995.Her most recent exhibitions include group exhibitions at galerie kamel mennour, Kunsthalle Mannheim and Galerie Bob van Orsouw, Zurich. Jen Ray lives and works in Berlin.
