VGF Verband Geschlossene Fonds e.V is pleased to present the group exhibition “During Office Hours”, curated by Aaron Moulton and Mette Ravnkilde Nielsen. This presentation of 21 artists draws direct and indirect associations with the rhythms, behaviors, textures and procedures of the office place. Hosted throughout the offices of VGF, the artworks riff on concepts of labor and the possible ironies found in day-to-day work.
Organizational culture is best analyzed in the office where a team of people, professionals of varying degrees, are enlisted to work towards a common goal. Skills or services give way to production which, based on demand, is then converted into economy. Relationships between co-workers are described as synergies of hierarchy, friendship and general coexistence, which overall create a harmonious work environment. The routine of the office place is so common to us all that one can easily relate to the roles played within this theater of labor. Behavioral strategies within a given occupation leave room to investigate the workplace as a source for aesthetic, philosophical and alternative notions for what happens during office hours.
For instance, the VGF Verband Geschlossene Fonds e.V. is an association representing the interests of providers and investors of closed-end funds. The VGF’s mission is to inform politicians, investors and the media about the investment activities regarding closed-end funds in an active and transparent way. The members of VGF mainly invest in property, shipping, renewable energies and private equity.
The association currently represents 51 member companies and a total annual investment volume of more than 134 billion Euros of the total German closed-end funds market (an investment volume of 164 billion Euros), which corresponds to a market share of more than 80 percent. Emphasizing the importance of the European Union internal market for their members, the association opened a Brussels office in April 2007 in addition to its headquarters here in Berlin.
The office is open Monday to Friday from 9 – 17:00. The exhibition “During Office Hours” will be open to the public by appointment only. Appointments can be made contacting +49 (0) 30 31804900. Tours of the exhibition can be made for groups of 5 or more upon request.
The curators would like to express their profound gratitude to Eric and Joelle Romba for their kind support in making this exhibition possible.
