You Select the Art. We Mount the Exhibition.

You design the booth.
You select the artists.
You choose the artworks.
We mount the exhibition at one of the world's major art fairs.

We're trying something new.

Curator's Open is a different model of fair curationWe will ask curators from around the world to take advantage of the ArtSlant network and use the ginormous database of artwork hosted on ArtSlant as a resource to craft the best art fair booth exhibition they can come up with. For the next month, curators will be scouring a special search page for the best work the ArtSlant network has to offer.

How it works:
ArtSlant has partnered with EXPO CHICAGO to present an open call for curators called Curator's Open. One user's My List will be selected to mount at EXPO CHICAGO this September by a panel of influential curators including EXPO CHICAGO's Director of Exhibitions, Patricia Courson.
As an ArtSlant user, you are able to create My Lists. My Lists are your way to create collections of artwork; for inspiration, for future reference, or even your gallery night out. Curator's Open makes use of this tool. First, you will be taken to a search page which presents artwork from members of the ArtSlant Community. To begin, just click on enter Curator's Open from your profile or go to the Contest tab in your My Page. When you find something you like, add it to your Curator's Open My List. Complete your entry by adding more works until you are satisfied with your exhibition. Save your selections by clicking the Submit your Entry button. Then just add your exhibition title, exhibition proposal and exhibition history. First timers are most welcome but professionalism will be a key component in the selection of the winning proposal.
Deadline for submissions is July 19. The chosen proposal will be selected and announced at the end of July, 2014. Best of Luck!

For Artists:
Here are some tips and tricks to take advantage of this very specific added exposure.

Add new artworks! The more new works on your profile, the better.

Complete tags and work information (artist name, title, date, medium, dimensions, primary color and tags). You can do this from the artwork's page. Just click on Edit Work to add more information. The easier your work is to find, the more likely you'll be included in someone's exhibition proposal.

Participate! Create some of your own My Lists and Watchlists. When you follow people, they are notified and can follow back. Be an active part of the arts community, get your name and your work out there. If someone selects your work to exhibit, respond to their request in a timely manner. After 7 days of no response, the request will be terminated.

Update your Profile! Have your exhibition information and statements current and up-to-date. Users who have recently updated and have complete profiles will show up at the top of the Curator's Open search page.

Be a curator! Invite friends who are not in the ArtSlant Community and curate your dream exhibition. It will take 24 hours for new users to be shown in the search page so plan ahead.

About the Selection:
To be selected for this exhibition, describe your concept fully. Include placement of the works, keeping in mind the sizes of each work. If the sizes are unlisted, e-mail the artist from their profile. Feel free to attach an image of your proposed layout in your Exhibition Statement. We‘ve provided a template to use below.
Composition tells a story. Note in your proposal how your exhibition composition will work on the viewer. All works must belong to claimed artist pages. If you prefer, you can search the Art pages to take advantage of more specific filters, just make sure the artist you add to your list is a claimed and active artist. Once you submit your proposal, all artists included in the proposal will be notified by ArtSlant and asked to accept. At the time of submission, a $15 administrative fee will be applied. Your proposal will be pending until all artists have agreed to participate. You can check on the status of your proposal in your Contest tab on your My Page.
