Annabelle Craven-Jones at Cruise & Callas June 25th - July 23rd

Transmitting information is inherent in today’s networked Internet Age. The information structures of our digital surroundings resemble the inner transmitting systems of nerves and their contacts, the synapses. With the help of messenger substances, neurotransmitters like serotonin pass on information and thereby activate the inner neural system. In her installation Conditions for Neurotransmission [P.O.V.] artist Annabelle Craven-Jones visualizes the mutual effects of both information systems and... [more]

Curator's Open: First Peek at Our Show at EXPO Chicago
9/15/14 Posted 9/15/14

Voynich Manuscript. image via Yale University's Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library We've never done this before. This year we launched our first-ever Curator's Open, where we asked you to use our massive database of art to curate our booth at EXPO Chicago. We then handed over the submissions to an expert jury of curators to decide which show we should put on. They selected Amsterdam-based curator and critic Manus Groenen's show "Cryptographics: a tribute to the Voynich Manuscript." Featuring... [more]

20130923130056-090rep Primary Forms with a Bold Function
Eva Fidjeland, Jane Walker at Galerie Stexwig September 15th, 2013 - October 27th, 2013
Posted 9/23/13

I like the slight melancholy mystery of these images. In general, the softened color palette and contrast evokes a faded memory, but the primary forms have a bold function. `Evolution´ employs a primordial form, spiraling up out of the water like a mythic sea creature. I also see the faintly grainy quality and washed out magenta tonality as harkening back to old photographic documentary film, though I`m unsure of the media/process employed here. I find the vertical orientation is also unexpected fo... [more]

Frauke Boggasch at Cruise & Callas May 18th, 2012 - June 30th, 2012
Posted 5/23/12

[more]

Christian Burnoski at Schillerpalais January 11th, 2011 - January 27th, 2011

The artwork is thoughtfully put together and works well within the space.  There's a lot in the show without over crowding.  It's also fun to see how he displays the theme of doubles and triples. [more]

molitor & kusmin at WHITE SQUARE GALLERY September 18th, 2010 - November 20th, 2010

With the exhibition “Et facta est Lux”, the White Square Gallery presents from September 18th until November 20th an extensive, space-oriented installation by the artist duo molitor & kuzmin. Ursula Molitor (born 1947 in Lower Saxony, Germany) and Vladimir Kuzmin (born 1943 in Saporoshje, Ukraine) have created a light installation, especially for exhibition at the White Square Gallery, which combines pieces of previous installations with pieces of new ones. In existence since 1996, the artist du... [more]

Michael Stokes at STYX Projects September 8th, 2010 - September 29th, 2010
Posted 9/11/10

Stokes seems to have the creative freedom that may have other artists, serving more commercial or intellectual masters, becoming anxious. It seems like Stokes just makes whatever he feels like, or works with whatever the sea provides, as it were. It's as though a fisherman waits patiently to see what might bite. But surely this reading is too simple. A reading of this body of work involves a certain amount of time, for there are no dry references to art history or to art theory. Stokes also do... [more]

Opening Photos from Berlin: March 12-13, Bongout, Wilde Gallery...
3/18/09 Posted 3/18/09

Last week we took off from Paris, and landed in Berlin to check out the scene there.  Despite the absolutely miserable weather we managed to take in some great art and witnessed the vibrant art culture that Berlin hosts: On Thursday we visited Bongout Gallery's (say bon goût) opening for the Kottie Paloma and Laurent Impeduglia show: Kottie Paloma's a pal from San Francisco, who's made the move to Berlin.  His hand-made, one of a kind books featuring down-and-out heroes, talking beer cans and...
