George W. Bush, the Artist and the Apocalypse
by
4/6/14 Posted 4/6/14

Former US president George W. Bush (2001-2009) is immersing himself in the art world and has created some rather surprisingly interesting portraits of world leaders, most of them he encountered during his presidency, arguably the worst one ever in the US history. Image source: George W. Bush Center During his horrible and incompetent presidency, George W. Bush (GWB) was often criticized as an imbecile ninny occupying a high office due to his fabulous family connection - his father Georg Bu... [more]

ISO 216 - Conartist collective / The test space gallery

Con Artist presents ISO 216, a collaboration between artists from New York and London. Named in honor of the world’s most common paper size ratio which, like so many of global standards of weights and measure, is notably rare in the US, ISO 216 celebrates the cultural parallels and unique individuality of the United Kingdom and United States. The two nations are ethnically diverse, share a common language, and are each massive exporters of art and culture, but as their slightly different paper size ratios indicate, they don&rs... [more]

Gregg Chadwick Sea and Shadow (Mare e Ombra) 30"x20" oil on linen 2014 Courtesy Sandra Lee Gallery, San Francisco Last night Italian pianist Giuseppina Torre gazed attentively at my painting Sea and Shadow (Mare e Ombra) and said to me,"La luce a Venezia è magica." I agreed, the light in Venice is magic. And there is light in Giuseppina Torre's music as well. Earlier that evening in the Arena 1 Gallery at the Santa Monica Art Studios she gave us a taste of her haunting piano compositions at t... [more]

(1) I try to find a suitable subject either from life or reference photograph that has a suitable light source that will give enough of a tonal range so that the subject can be given a 3 dimensional look and a good variety of colur combinations to explore. (2) the light source needs to be recognised as to whether it is direct or in-direct and also its colour temperature. (3) a thumbnail sketch gives a quick and easy view of the balance of the composition. (4) a sketch is carried out on canvas u... [more]
