Peter Durieux

The landscapes of Peter Durieux are places where people can find rest, and experience the beauty of nature. Green forests and pastures with a little fence or wall, are carefully depicted. There is no wind, no noise, everything is silent.

Peter Durieux derives his ideas from his travels to France, where he regularly works with his colleagues or alone. There he takes walks to sketch out areas that fascinate him. Durieux does not depict humans in his work, but we can still see the presence of the human hand in signs, houses, etc. He depicts those elements as they are in harmony with nature, as if the human presence just adds something, instead of ruining the nature.

Durieux learned to paint and draw on the Academie Minerva in Groningen. He paints with acrylics on masoniet, because this paint dries quickly. He adds many layers to create clarity and depth. He avoids using bright colors to keep peace and balance in his landscapes.

Dennis Møgelgaard

Already at a young age Dennis Møgelgaard knew that he wanted to be an artist, but when he was looking for the right training he did not find it in Denmark. He was looking for a College where he could learn the craft and precise way of painting he admired. In the end he has mainly taught himself. Looking at composition, light and technical perfection, his work is strongly related to that of the Magisch Realisten from the 1930s. He discovered the work of artists such as Koch, Ket and Willink during his quest for recognition in the art.

Møgelgaard used to paint very fine still lifes. But the last two years, he changed his direction, and the result is shown in this new exhibition. While his former style made it easy to identify, his new oeuvre consists a variety of themes. Portraits, nudes, white chicken and a single landscape make a colorful exhibition with a good dose of humor. His fine style remains, but because of the more vibrant topics, the viewer experiences greater dynamic. Color and composition are balanced, and the technical perfection as seen in his still lifes, remains in his new work.
