Not everything that glitters is gold. Not everything we perceive as precious or true fulfills the promise of its appearance. In a series of work-sets, Jens Pfeifer explores the deceiving shine of objects, materials, substances and beliefs.
Pfeifer refuses to take established value judgments for granted. Through the prism of his glass works he reacts to 17th century “Golden Age” still life paintings. Continuing his series of “Icon” drawings, using Redouté’s botanical drawings as reference, he tests the visual boundaries of his established body of work. Pfeifer re-frames a collection of psychoactive or hallucinatory plants. He resurrects them in a golden, glorious shine, as attractive as they are misleading.
