Transmitting information is inherent in today’s networked Internet Age. The information structures of our digital surroundings resemble the inner transmitting systems of nerves and their contacts, the synapses. With the help of messenger substances, neurotransmitters like serotonin pass on information and thereby activate the inner neural system. In her installation Conditions for Neurotransmission [P.O.V.] artist Annabelle Craven-Jones visualizes the mutual effects of both information systems and... [more]

This season, in partnership with ARTS.BLACK, ArtSlant is publishing a series of essays on security, guards, labor, and privilege in museum spaces. Find the first installment and an introduction to the series here. I’d be lying if I said that I’ve always held a deep respect for museum guards. That I’ve reflected deeply on those who stand and sit for hours on end, thanklessly serving as the human buffers between the world’s greatest treasures and greasy fingers or forbidden... [more]

Drought Pool Saturation Water, light on water, reflections in water have been an ongoing theme in my art practice. Water is symbolic of life. Water is vital to our existence. In November of 2015 I found myself without one of my Muses, the water in the backyard pool, since the pool was drained and being refurbished because of leaks/cracks due to time and earthquakes. Subsequently, the destruction of the pool's shell became an interesting subject for me artistically. My goal was to photogra... [more]
