Private Collection series
by
5/2/16 Posted 5/2/16

Private Collection came to be after almost 3 decades of tucking away personal photographs of my life with JB. Kodak envelopes, photo hut mailings, boxes, albums, digital discs, and finally of course, the exploding spawn of digital devices which seem to spew images like broken water mains- at least in my hands they do. All these moments we file away in the black hole of whatever type of cloud we choose today, or, fire them off into the smediaverse for our own purposes. The works presented he... [more]

DG Krueger HATE CRIME series
by
5/2/16 Posted 5/2/16

The Hate Crime series is a labor of love and concern. These are not works conceived or strategized to reach a market for financial purposes. I've taken up the subject matter out of alarm, sorrow, horror, repugnance and disappointment. The images themselves, disturbing as they may be, are offered up buffered within technique. It is largely the technique employed on this imagery which interests me; how it can shift an image away from being one more nightmarish photographic experience and... [more]

Five thousand women are murdered annually by their fathers, sons, brothers, or husbands in so-called honor killings. Or at least that’s the most widely cited number, derived from a UN estimate in 2000, the last time an official study was done. The real number, according to experts like Jordanian journalist Rana Husseini, who has covered the subject for over 20 years, is likely much larger. Honor killings are often considered an internal family issue; they’re a highly sensitive topic, a... [more]

Current state // Artist's collection
by
4/24/16 Posted 4/24/16

Project "Current state" represents an archive of personal belongings of the artist through photographs. Personal things in this case are referred to as "objects" are listed by numbers, stored in a particular category. Through this process it becomes depersonalized, transformed into photographic documents that resemble examples from the catalog of consumer... [more]

THE FUTURE OF ART: Fabiola Jean-Louis Rewrites History
by
4/9/16 Posted 4/9/16

Recently exhibited at Harlem School of the Arts' freshly renovated Gallery Space, Fabiola Jean-Louis' Rewriting History is an interdisciplinary series that serves up a ride through antiquity and imagination. Modern period dresses, fashioned almost entirely from paper, become actors in a photographic essay that challenges notions of reality, time and space. Visual, sculptural and performative at once, the artist creates a world that embodies an alternate past where people of color might have live... [more]

Lee Godie at Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art April 8th - July 5th
Posted 3/31/16

Lee Godie, pronounced “go-DAY.” She was a French Impressionist; her portraits and still-lifes were “better than Cezanne.” Or so went the sales pitch from her habitual perch—and erstwhile studio—on the steps of the Art Institute of Chicago. Living on the streets, sleeping in the park, sprawling out on the floors of local libraries to draw, using a supermarket as an informal bank, Ms. Godie has become one of the most recognized Chicago artists, perhaps because for a while she... L.A. Photo Curator CALL FOR ENTRY: The Figure in the Landscape
Posted 3/21/16

The relationship between a figure and its landscape context can be powerful. Landscapes are often presented as pristine places, without human presence. However, figures within landscapes can play dynamic roles as scale elements, protagonists in a narrative, or mysterious presences. Sometimes figures can ask more questions about a place than they can answer. For this exhibition we seek photographs that extend beyond documentation of place to bring a human element into the natural or urban landsca... [more]
