New Museum Store
by Nicholas Weist

The whole of New York was talking about the brand new New Museum, which opened in December with Unmonumental, a show of assemblage that will itself be assembled over time, with additions filtering in until April. But no one has really talked about its store…which is a brilliantly curated mix of merchandise from a wide range of sources.

There you can find, say, a $100 Anslem Keifer monograph next to young’un Brian Belott’s Wipe That Clock Off Your Face, a small artist book published by Picture Box, Inc. And Brian’s bud Noah Lyon (Retard Riot) has a bucket full of his unlimited edition buttons for $1.50 next to a set of Damien Hirst’s limited edition of 12 plates for $25,000.

But most (for lack of a better word) awesome is the a range of artist-made (for lack of a better word) stuff like towels by Kehinde Wiley, stuffed animals by Mike Kelley, Neckface t-shirts, and mugs printed with “Hell, Yes!” reprising Ugo Rondinone’s 2001 piece.
